Children’s Creative Project

Project Description: The Children’s Creative Project (a division of Santa Barbara County Education Office) provides free arts education and performances to children in Santa Barbara County, and the I Madonnari Street Painting Festival is its largest fundraising effort. Jennifer LeMay, assisted by Jessie Altstatt, created the featured street painting at the 2009 Santa Barbara Street Painting Festival. The painting (12 x 16 feet), created at the base of the SB Mission steps, depicted underwater ocean life in the Santa Barbara Channel. The painting was printed on posters, t-shirts, aprons, and greeting cards, which are sold at subsequent festivals to benefit the CCP.

A festival is only one of the many venues featuring street paintings. Commissioning this unique artwork is a great way to bring creativity to many types of events, and is becoming popular with nonprofits and businesses alike for attracting audiences.

The festival is held every Memorial Day weekend, and attracts nearly 30,000 visitors to the Santa Barbara Mission. Below are some photos, and a video, featuring a few of Jennifer’s street paintings from past festivals.
